Accent Walls Are Here to Stay!

Designers predicted accent walls were a thing of the past. We scratched our heads, wondering how could that be? We admit not all design trends are for everybody. But we see no reason to throw away accent walls as an opportunity to transform a room. One of the most important things to consider when designing your home, office, or business is how you want the room to make you feel. Your décor and interior design choices are ways to ensure your environment brings you joy.

Accent pieces serve that very purpose, to bring some natural, organic joy to your daily life. An accent wall or feature wall is a single wall in a room that is highlighted in some way to stand out from the rest of the design. Some people may find accent walls distracting but we think wood accent walls are a chance to have fun, liven up a room, and feel good about the space you’re in.

Here are a few tips to transition your accent wall from being less of a distraction to be the focal point of your design theme. Don’t be shy about experimenting with different textures, colors, shapes, and materials!

Add More Greenery

As nature lovers, our first tip is to spruce up your reclaimed wood accent wall by going green! Pair your wood wall with its original form – trees and shrubs. Hang plants in front of your wall or add a vase of flowers to each room. Use some of your scrap reclaimed wood pieces to build planters for your indoor plants. Studies show that having indoor plants boost your mood, reduces stress levels, and improve concentration. While you are being safe indoors bring nature in with wood, trees, and flowers.

Add More Wood Décor

Wood is found all around homes and businesses in places we often overlook. Our baseboards, doors, flooring, tables, and furniture are mostly all made of wood. Those are common, essential wood items but you can add more wood details in fun ways. Brighten a kitchen with live edge wood utensils and accessories or add a reclaimed wood table to the dining area. You could also add reclaimed wood paneling to other areas beyond the wall. Be playful with reclaimed wood art, coasters, key hooks, shelves, or even wood oil diffusers. The list is endless, a quick search on Etsy will open your world to tons of wood décor items to explore.

Mix & Match

If your home is anything like ours, it is full of many colors and materials. The main reason an accent wall is described as distracting is because it differs heavily from the rest of the room. That doesn’t have to be the case. A feature wall should showcase your design aesthetic. Create harmony in your open concept living area with colors ranging from burgundy and brown to black and white with an accent wall that incorporates all those colors. For example, our Sequoia paneling comes with shades of red, brown, black, and light grays to match well with almost any design theme. We can also accommodate custom color requests!
